Being Sore After a Workout: Fixed It With my Myobuddy Pro!

Who hasn’t gotten sore after a workout at least once, right?

Sometimes in my quest to get fit, I push it a little too hard. “I can’t go to the gym tomorrow so I’m going to run twice as long today.” Not only is that flawed fitness logic but it’s just dumb. I may burn a lot of calories but then I’m too sore to move properly the next day. It’s something I’m working on, but even in a regular week, there are times I’m sore from lifting too much weight, running uphill more than my body’s comfortable with or I just have a sore back from sitting at my desk and turning between three monitors and two laptops.

I love a good massage, but getting to the masseuse is not something a busy schedule always allows. It’s enough to fit the gym in, I can’t squeeze in one more appointment so sometimes I just take a hot bubble bath and call it a day…or I whine enough to the husband that he’ll indulge me. Then there’s my teenage son, who goes to the gym at least five nights a week. He’s pretty strong and lifts a lot, but complains some weeks about overdoing it. That’s always fun.

Myobuddy Pro to the rescue. This percussive massager with an oscillating disk is a lifesaver. It gives us the feeling of a professional massage at home, without ever having to get out of your pajamas…or maybe that’s just me in my jammies, when I whine about being sore.

I was given a complimentary massage unit for the purposes of this review, but the photos and opinions are my own.

Straight from the Myobuddy Pro website, this phrase explains best why this product is a must-have for anyone with a back or muscles: The MyoBuddy Pro percussive massager places professional grade deep tissue, warming, trigger point and cutting edge vibrational massage technology in the palm of your hands, providing instant relief to muscle soreness and myofascial pain.

The massage unit is of pretty good size, so while you can use it on yourself, you’ll have better results on your back if you have someone hold it for you. I used it on my son’s back post-workout and he was loving it. You can see in the video below that it was easy for me to hold with just one hand, with my thumb on the button for changing the speed/intensity. The three levels provide an option for any kind of discomfort. Level one is a soft percussive mode that we found great for mild soreness. Level two takes it up a notch and really did a number on the knot in my back. Level three is a friction mode, one that is warming and spins very fast.

“Mom, don’t show my face! Hold the camera upright so you don’t get my face!”

Included in the box are two covers, also referred to as bonnets: the white fluffy one that you put on the disk when you are using it on clothed skin (or if you’re a professional masseuse using it on someone with a sheet) and a blue one for use with lotions and/or oils. The cord is quite long so finding an outlet close enough is less of a problem. You’ll also get a sheet of basics about massage and using the machine to its best.

We found we really enjoyed the massage from the Myobuddy Pro. We tested out each option on different areas: back, shoulder, arms and legs. My son felt that using the side of the disc as suggested on a specific point of discomfort really got into the sore spot and loosened it up. Level 3 on the soft spot between my neck and my shoulder relieved a kink in my neck in a short period of time. The Myobuddy Pro website includes specific instructions on using it for different sets of muscles, along with a lot of good information to read before plugging it in that first time. Pay special attention to suggested times of use on each area and for a total massage.

Want to find a Myobuddy Pro massage unit under your Christmas tree this year? There’s still time! The units run $399.99 each and are available via their website at myobuddypro.com. Designed to fit your home, office, business and lifestyle needs, it’ll pay for itself in no time. Just remember to take it slow and like any massage you get, be sure to drink enough water afterwards. I’m not a doctor, I’m just sharing what I’m told every single time I get a massage, since a massage releases toxins that were trapped in your muscles and the water helps flush them out. And check with your doctor with any concerns you may have!

And remember: being sore after a workout can just mean you pushed it too hard or increased your workout, but don’t be a hero. Take care of yourself and don’t overdo it! I try to follow that credo every workout but the reality is that I often still end up sore. Now I can pull out my Myobuddy Pro and take care of it before it gets in the way of every day life.
