The Focus Features 2018 Movie Slate is Out!

This year is going to be another amazing year in movies! Below I’ve got the scoop on the Focus Features 2018 movie slate, and as always, there is a lot to look forward to!

Listed in order of premiere, I’ve got a brief description of the movie and a link to the trailer for a brief glimpse. Out of all of these, I think the one I’m looking forward to most is 7 Days in Entebbe, starring Rosamund Pike, Daniel Bruhl and more. That non-fiction incident was truly gripping and I am sure Focus Features will do a fantastic job telling the whole story. Boy Erased looks like another must-see, too.

Thoroughbreds, coming out on March 9, 2018:

Childhood friends Lily and Amanda reconnect in suburban Connecticut after years of growing apart. Lily has turned into a polished, upper-class teenager, with a fancy boarding school on her transcript and a coveted internship on her resume; Amanda has developed a sharp wit and her own particular attitude, but all in the process of becoming a social outcast. Though they initially seem completely at odds, the pair bond over Lily’s contempt for her oppressive stepfather, Mark, and as their friendship grows, they begin to bring out one another’s most destructive tendencies. Their ambitions lead them to hire a local hustler, Tim, and take matters into their own hands to set their lives straight.

7 Days in Entebbe, March 16, 2018:

A gripping thriller inspired by the true events of the 1976 hijacking of an Air France flight en route from Tel Aviv to Paris, the film depicts the most daring rescue mission ever attempted.

Tully, April 20, 2018:

A new comedy from Academy Award®-nominated director Jason Reitman (“Up in the Air”) and Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (“Juno”). Marlo (Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron), a mother of three including a newborn, is gifted a night nanny by her brother (Mark Duplass). Hesitant to the extravagance at first, Marlo comes to form a unique bond with the thoughtful, surprising, and sometimes challenging young nanny named Tully (Mackenzie Davis).

Won’t You Be My Neighbor, June 8, 2018:

From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville (20 Feet from Stardom), Won’t You Be My Neighbor? takes an intimate look at America’s favorite neighbor: Mister Fred Rogers. A portrait of a man whom we all think we know, this emotional and moving film takes us beyond the zip-up cardigans and the land of make-believe, and into the heart of a creative genius who inspired generations of children with compassion and limitless imagination.

Captive State, August 17, 2018:

Set in a Chicago neighborhood nearly a decade after an occupation by an extra-terrestrial force, “Captive State” explores the lives on both sides of the conflict – the collaborators and dissidents.

The Little Stranger, August 31, 2018:

THE LITTLE STRANGER tells the story of Dr Faraday, the son of a housemaid, who has built a life of quiet respectability as a country doctor. During the long hot summer of 1948, he is called to a patient at Hundreds Hall, where his mother once worked.  The Hall has been home to the Ayres family for more than two centuries.  But it is now in decline and its inhabitants – mother, son and daughter – are haunted by something more ominous than a dying way of life.  When he takes on his new patient, Faraday has no idea how closely, and how disturbingly, the family’s story is about to become entwined with his own.

Boy Erased, September 28, 2018:

“Boy Erased” tells the story of Jared (Hedges), the son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town, who is outed to his parents (Kidman and Crowe) at age 19. Jared is faced with an ultimatum: attend a gay conversion therapy program – or be permanently exiled and shunned by his family, friends, and faith. Boy Erased is the true story of one young man’s struggle to find himself while being forced to question every aspect of his identity.

Mary, Queen of Scots, November 2, 2018:

“Mary, Queen of Scots” explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart. Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry. Instead, she returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. But Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling Elizabeth 1. Each young Queen beholds her “sister” in fear and fascination. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence. Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth’s sovereignty. Betrayal, rebellion, and conspiracies within each court imperil both thrones – and change the course of history.

On the Basis of Sex, release date TBD:

The film tells an inspiring and spirited true story that follows young lawyer Ruth Bader Ginsburg as she teams with her husband Marty to bring a groundbreaking case before the Supreme Court and overturn a century of gender discrimination. The feature will premiere in 2018 in line with Justice Ginsburg’s 25th anniversary on the Supreme Court.

Johnny English 3, also TBD:

In “Johnny English 3”, a new adventure begins when a cyber attack blows the cover of all active undercover agents in Britain and its mastermind threatens the world with further disruption. The secret service can now rely on only one man – Johnny English. Currently teaching at a minor prep school, English is called back to duty to find the wily hacker and swan-dives head first into action. But for this mission to succeed, it will take all of his skills – what few he has – as the man with yesterday’s analogue methods faces off with tomorrow’s digital technology.

Which of these movies from the Focus Features 2018 movie slate do you want to see the most?

I want to get dressed in the morning and be able to handle my whole day without having to do a wardrobe change, and these Max and Mia leggings fit the bill. And me. They fit me perfectly. They are high-waisted, which means they help hide my tummy jiggles while preventing the rolling down that often happens with leggings. For me, they’re like compression leggings without the higher cost, and they fit smoothly so I can wear them with anything. Dress them up, dress them down, they work with my Doc Marten’s and my Converse, a fancy sweater or this plush fleece sweatshirt.

I’m wearing a medium, and there’s a good flex, so I could officially call them eating pants, because no waist will be biting into me, which is almost as important as the warm factor. We’ve had high winds here in the Inland Empire, and I wore these out in it without filling any chill in my legs. Look cute, hide the chubs, feel warm, maybe even do yoga in them. Winning on all counts. Look for them at CostCo!

Thanks to @MelissasProduce, I got to try something Thanks to @MelissasProduce, I got to try something new and make this fun recipe for Lunar New Year. Shrimp, bok choy and egg noodles come together with a sweet and spicy sauce and a few other types of produce to make a one-dish dinner for your family. We’re a spicy family, so I added a little chili oil (and a dash of hot yuzu sauce) but you can change that up according to your family’s preferences. This serves probably four people if it’s your only entree, but could stretch a little more — I know the hubs had some good leftovers today, there was only three of us for dinner last night.

You can join the #LNYCookoff challenge by making two of the recipes out of the long list that Melissa’s Produce will supply. Check it out over on their Instagram feed! I’m trying a Garlic Gai Lan in a few days and I’m really excited to make something that I’ve never tried before. And I love garlic, so anything with it is a win.

Little side note: I went out of order on the recipes. I can’t eat beef so I had to skip ahead. The beef recipes look fantastic though! I just don’t buy it because I can only stare at it in envy. 😂

Throwing it back (thanks to Facebook memories) to Throwing it back (thanks to Facebook memories) to when we attended the opening party for nFuse at the Anaheim Marriott. What a blast! Bourbon tasting bar, meeting the chef, amazing food and cocktails…and crazy photo opps like this one! We had so much fun with foodie friends that night. As a Magic Key holder who is down in Anaheim often, I really have no excuse for not going back frequently.

Time for my yearly intro! I’m Donna, a mom of fo Time for my yearly intro! I’m Donna, a mom of four, grammy to two, and doggy mom to Shuri and Lady Sif. If the dog names didn’t give it away, I’m a huge Marvel and Disney fan. I’m also the owner of a social media marketing agency here in Southern California, and I have been a blogger since the early days. (I think my first blog started in 2005?)

“Dangerous Cupcake” is based on a nickname my younger daughter created a long time ago, and since I started blogging because I wrote about my ‘dangerous cupcake’ combinations — all booze-infused, popular with friends, family members and clients — it seemed a fitting choice for my lifestyle blog. My blog is now a team effort; we write about food, drinks, travel, entertainment, home/life and more.

We’re huge NASCAR fans, and I drive my dream car, so there’s also some automotive content mixed in.

As I’m now in what is called midlife, one of my goals is to authentically share what life is like in what I call phase 2, where we’re still actively parenting but in a different realm. I’m not an empty-nester, but all our kids are over 18. This phase of life is pretty fantastic but we’re a generation that’s often left out of marketing despite the fact that we have more money and more time and we give less Fs about what people think. If you’re over 45, own it. Be yourself. And if you want purple hair, go for it — I do!

I’m glad to have you all here!

January can seem like a dreary month. Here in Sout January can seem like a dreary month. Here in Southern California, it can be full of rain, cloudy skies and temps that go up and down by the hour. It’s kind be a mood killer, as we’re putting away the fun lights and sparkly dresses and getting back to work. That’s why it’s important to take a break, get out and enjoy the fresh air while you can. Today’s window was small, and I only made it to a few stores at Victoria Gardens before the rain temporarily returned….and I realized I’d left my umbrella in my car, parked on the east side of the mall. I made that hour count though, enjoying this gorgeous view and scoring a few deals at Forever 21, Journeys and H & M. New chunky gold jewelry and purple Converse. (Have I shared that I have a thing with buying new shoes all the time?)

I’m starting 2023 off right — my kind of right. No resolutions, just getting back to my normal, and if that normal includes returning to better eating, more activity and new business goals, that’s not resolutions. That’s pulling out of the holiday fugue where <almost> anything goes. I cleaned out my closet, with no mercy. (I donated 8 bags of clothes and shoes, many with tags! Shameful waste but I hope someone else benefits at least now.) I filled out my Erin Condren Life Planner with a ton of content plans for my business, my blog and my clients. (Did you know I own a social media marketing agency? I’ve been in digital marketing for 25 years now! I’ll have to do another intro post soon!)

Thanks to some wonderful inspiration here on Instagram, I’m also celebrating that I gave away some of my super shapeless sweats so I have less excuses to look like a slug during my days at home. More style, MY style, and less baggy outfits. I’ve got this..right?
