It’s official, our house is on the market. DC is headed back to the west coast to
cause more trouble have fun with the friends and family. Life in a small rural town is always made to sound so idyllic, so calm, so peaceful…and maybe that’s true in some places, but I think too many people are high on bug-spray. Idyllic? Calm? Peaceful? Maybe it is and the heat index of 110 has gotten to my brain and I can’t appreciate the beauty of mosquitoes and melting when I go to get mail. I figured I’d had enough of it when I went to water the vegetables and ended up holding the hose over my head. Another sign was when I watered last Christmas’ poinsettia on the patio and I was tempted to fall backwards into the pool, fully dressed with dark clothes that wouldn’t have fared the chlorine well. And I really liked that outfit…
Anyway, we now have the For Sale sign hanging in the yard. I’m waiting for the calls lining up viewing appointments, yet knowing each one will mean a frantic rush through the house to grab this, can’t leave that out, take this with us to the RV…and what if I’m in the middle of BAKING CUPCAKES??
I’d let the cupcakes sit. That’s how desperately we want this move — even though it does mean a lot of chaos, as well as the search for commercial bakespace to rent until California gets with the program and puts its cottage law on the books allowing us to bake from home again.
To curb the stress, I’m eating pavlovas…fat-free, low-cal (as far as sweets go, at least) and chameleon-like in the dessert department as you can cover them with fruit, a small smidge of fat-free cream cheese and homemade jelly or anything tasty or just plain. I blame Food Network. I watch them 24/7. Except for right now, and the only reason for that is that I just can’t get enough of the commercial for Roseanne’s Nuts on Lifetime…ha, uhm, no. I hate that commercial and it may well be the only reason I stop watching Lifetime entirely..right after this movie is over. Then Food Network, you have my undying attention..unless Top Chef is on, then I will have a serious battle.
I should be packing, so we’re not in a huge rush when the time comes. (Been there, done that, even after we planned the last cross-country move for a year.) But instead, I’m planning a shopping trip to ACMoore next week so I can get a few more baking items that I need. Okay, I just want them, but once I use them for fantastic desserts for the family, they’ll see how we need them. It’s a fine line.
Martha Stewart’s Meyer Lemon cupcake is on tap for this weekend. The teenager picked them out, I just hope she knows she is helping…. have a happy Wednesday, at least the work-week is more than halfway over!
Now I’m going back to eating pavlovas…
