My Home Office: A Peek Into Where I Spend My Days

Ever wonder what the home offices of the writers of the blogs you read look like? Or is that just me?

I love seeing others’ offices. I like to see how they organize, what surrounds them, what inspires, motivates or energizes them. I think a working space often speaks a lot about the person and gives you a quick glimpse into their life and personality.

Here’s what mine looks like, with a few notes…

my home office

The heart and soul of my office, my desk…a behemoth the husband put together for me years back and I love it. Space for everything and a lot of room to spread out. My morning smoothie there next to water to stay hydrated and of course, Thor to look at while I’m running on the treadmill along with a TV that’s usually sporting Food Network. See the top right of my desk? Treasures from the kids, things I will forever display. It may be cluttered for some, but considering that’s about the only shelf you’ll find in my house with stuff on it like that, it tells you how important that all is to me. Organized with each cubby having a purpose.

Another view, so you can see my Minions poster. They make me laugh. The white board helps me jot down notes and that green cabinet next to my worn but comfy leather desk chair is full of supplies. We got that armoire in South Carolina and I love the custom painting on it.

The view from inside my office door. That balcony is where I sit while I’m on the phone, where I enjoy a glass of wine at night or my salad at lunch. We watch traffic go by on the weekends while putting our feet up and enjoying the view of the palm trees and mountains and gorgeous California sky. That new solar shade keeps the temperatures lower as the sun hits in the mid-afternoon and gives me added privacy. It’s like an extension to my office and was a big selling point when we bought this home.

This is the view when I spin around my desk chair. That closet’s full of scrapbook and craft supplies and you would be thoroughly impressed with the customized shelving the husband installed so I could make it all fit AND still get to it easily. Behind the door is my pop-up table (for my sewing machine or when I want to spread out scrapbook gear) and a corkboard to pin up important things. Right now, I think it’s just full of cool things from my family and the numbers for our medical providers. Priorities.

What’s the favorite thing about your office? Mine is being surrounded by the things that I use and need and love. It’s not the biggest room but it’s private, I can shut the door and it’s MY space. I’ve worked from home for almost 20 years now and I’ve  not always had an office with a door. Such a big deal and I think I have the best room in the house! Tell me about your space!

I love that armoire. That’s the first thing I noticed :).

I feel the same way about my office. It’s the only room in the house I can call my own and no one is allowed in there. They go in there anyway but I can always make that announcement whenever I want :).

I don’t have anything fancy in my office either just the basics and some cabinets. I did eye a L shaped desk on sale at Office Depot for $350 and that included a hutch…I gotta butter up the hubs for that one LOL.

    Happy Wednesday!

Waaaa, I want a balcony off of my office!
I’m ashamed to take a picture of my desk; it’s so messy that it’s ridiculous. Plus I have the added accessory of a litter box behind my chair. I’ve been working on getting it cleared up a bit (the desk), but I think that litter box is there to stay.
There is an inkling of a plan to (someday) moveit all back into my spare bedroom, instead of the (unused) dining area I’m in now. But you know what they say about plans….

How cool that you have a balcony off of your office?! Love that you have a treadmill AND tv in there as well! I long to have a proper home office. Currently I share it with our washer/dryer area, which isn’t the greatest situation, but we make do.

The Road to Hana is one of Maui’s most popular t The Road to Hana is one of Maui’s most popular tourist destinations…and with good reason. If you’re headed to the island, it’s definitely worth the time. Wear your bathing suit under your clothes, pack some water, snacks and a towel, and go on an adventure that will take you past some of the prettiest natural scenes you’ll ever experience. On the way back, get dinner at the Island Cafe — just head back before dark, as even the locals will tell you it’s best done during the day. The road is one-lane in 59 places, so it can be an exercise in patience. If you’re getting a rental, you’ll appreciate something smaller on this trip; parking can be tough, and there are tight squeezes in some of the turns. (Rental agencies also won’t cover incidents you may incur if you take the road all the way around the end of the island instead of turning around and heading home.)

And if someone pulls up beyond you, waving and yelling, don’t get upset! The locals are beyond kind but they’re used to making the drive so they do this to ask that us slower drivers pull over so they can go around. (They’re not yelling anything bad, I promise! They just want to be sure they get your attention.)

The drive may not be something you want to do on every trip, and it’s not necessarily great for kids after the first waterfall, but everyone needs to do it at least once.

Sushi is one of the prettiest foods out there and Sushi is one of the prettiest foods out there and one of our favorites. Our go-to place is Satsuma in Rancho Cucamonga. Great food, fun environment and top-notch service. And maybe some karaoke if you stay late. (Next time, I’m watching only 🤣)

Lighting is very much mood lighting, so photos are darker than I’d like but I really wanted to show off this plate! You cannot go wrong visiting Satsuma. Two seatings per night, reservations required.
