We just returned from Costa Rica, and if you’re We just returned from Costa Rica, and if you’re planning a trip, do NOT skip this gem: Gingerbread Restaurant and Hotel in Nuevo Arenal. Chef Eyal and his Gingerbread family put on one hell of a foodie show, while making you feel right at home. We chose the Chef’s tasting option and every single one of our <many> dishes was a standout on its own. Chef Eyal puts his unique spin on each entree, and combined with the vibes, music, and his adorable dog, you will not want to leave. Just be sure to leave room in your second stomach, aka your dessert stomach! 
A few tips for first-time visitors: ✅Come hungry. And thirsty. You will leave full and satiated, otherwise known as fat and happy. 🚕Plan your transport in advance if you do not have a rental car. Taxis are available but we chose a private driver that saved us about $30. (And Chef fed him! Our driver was ELATED.) ✅If you drive on your own, it will take you a bit longer; it’s pitch black there at night, there is wildlife, and it’s a two-lane winding <gorgeous> road. ✅Give yourself time to thoroughly enjoy your night. Arrive early if you want to wander the grounds a bit — they are gorgeous. The drive was about 40 minutes-ish from Arenal Springs Resort, as a measurement. (We even got to see a pizote cross the road on our way!) ✅Do the tasting! There is a regular menu but the tasting is like one surprise after another! 🐶PET THE DOG. It is as sweet and friendly as can be and I loved giving it some extra cuddles as I was missing our furbabies at home. ✅Make a reservation in advance! You can do it online, and Chef will take care of you if you have special food needs. (I can’t eat beef, so he was so kind to easily cook around that requirement.) Seriously though, no, it’s not all wine BUT this was a week full of fun wine-related events…and there will be more wine featured. Life changes. We pivot our direction. We grow and decide to do more of what makes us happy…or where our clients take us. It’s all good, so don’t go away. Mickey says hi! And so does Stitch, in my now massive tee but I can’t give it up! (And I had just enjoyed some Barbera at @naples_ristorante before this pic 😆 Naples is a perfect place to relax while waiting for traffic to die down or when there’s no seating in the parks, which happens a lot during spring break. We hear a lot about being healthy, but if we seek We hear a lot about being healthy, but if we seek wellness, we get so much more. Wellness is a balance of our various modes of health: physical, mental, spiritual, social, etc. Each day, we make choices that contribute to our ongoing wellness, and while physical health is pretty similar for all of us, the rest have variations. Some people run to clear their mind; I do yoga or I take a hot bath. Spirituality can be church, tarot cards, or meditation. I have days where I really need to get out of the house with friends or go see Mickey Mouse, while other days, I want my sweats, and a Bourbon while I binge the latest drama. For me, wine is part of my personal wellness approach. I love how it tastes, I enjoy the relaxation it brings, and the process of opening a bottle, smelling its aromas, and sipping it while I make dinner or watch a movie. It’s the intentional act of enjoying a bottle of wine — and that’s an okay thing. (Just drink responsibly.) Balance. Self-care takes many forms, and denying things that bring us happiness comes with a price. My doctor put me on some pretty serious medicines for my autoimmune disorder; I asked him, before the ink on that prescription was dry, what impact it would have if I had some wine. “Mental health is important, and this disorder will take enough from you. Some people choose to be sober, while others find the benefits outweigh any risks there might be. Be smart, drink in moderation, always get your regular labs run, and do what works for your mental health. If that’s a drink now and then, go for it.” Life is short, and we need to fill it with as many good times as we can. Last weekend’s Festival of Forgotten Grapes was Last weekend’s Festival of Forgotten Grapes was a five-hour immersion deep into California’s wine history and the grapes that you deserve to know about but probably don’t. For example, did you know that nine kinds of grapes make up 93% of the wine plantings in California? There are 110 kinds of grapes here, so that means over 100 kinds of grapes make up the remaining 7%. Crazy, right? The Festival of Forgotten Grapes featured around 60 winemakers, each sharing a big variety of wines to taste. One ticket = unlimited tastes. With over 250 wines available, choosing which to try was difficult! We met some wonderful winemakers, tried grapes we’d never even heard of (like Picpoul) and thanks to a VIP ticket perk, we were able to shop from all their wines and get one free delivery that includes them all. I can’t wait until our choices arrive! We also found a new restaurant that makes the best empanadas we’ve ever had. Wine, empanadas, new friends = perfect weekend event.
