Disney's Live Action Remake of Beauty and the Beast is Amazing!

The live action remake of Beauty and the Beast comes out today, and I couldn’t be more excited. I’m already eager to go see it again!

A beautiful ball is being held by a French prince, surrounded by his friends and servants who live in the castle with him. An elderly woman appears, begging to stay in the castle overnight until the storm calms down. She has no money to give, but offers a single red rose to the Prince, which he immediately turned away. She gives him a warning which he does not heed, and in return, she transforms him into a massive beast, and his servants into various household objects. She wipes the memory of any friends in attendance and curses the red rose, saying that he must learn to love somebody and be loved in return before the last petal falls. If he cannot make this happen, he and his servants remain in these inanimate forms for eternity.

Fast forward several years, in a small village named Villeneuve, there is a young woman named Belle. More interested in her books than fitting in with her community that looks down upon her, she’s different than every other girl in the village. And that’s exactly why Gaston, an egotistical, overconfident former soldier, is so steadfast to win Belle’s heart and wed her. However, due to his seemingly off-putting attitude, she continues to turn him down time and time again.

Belle’s father, Maurice, creates music boxes for a living, leaves town one day to sell his music boxes on a larger scale, and promises Belle he will bring her a rose. While out on his journey, ends up at a dark castle, where it snows year-round and you can hardly see the light of day. Maurice is forced to find shelter, so he enters the castle to ask the owner if he can stay. He can’t find anybody and once he thinks he hears a teacup speak, he makes his leave, but on his way out, he sees a rosebush and plucks one flower for Belle. The Beast sees this and punishes Maurice for stealing, locking him away in his dungeon.

I’m not going to spoil the movie for you, so if you want to know what happens from here, you’re going to have to go see Beauty and the Beast in theaters.

With Emma Watson portraying Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, and many other talented actors and actresses, it’s so well done in modernizing this wonderful story that so many of us have grown to love. The movie, of course, focuses on the growing interest between Belle and the Beast, but also illustrates the relationship between Belle and her father, and my personal favorite, really depicts Belle’s smart, brave, independent personality. Belle is really her own hero in this movie, and Emma Watson fits the part perfectly. She’s not only an inspiration to millions of woman worldwide through her work as being an activist in today’s real world, but the importance she puts on education and opportunity is also reflected in her role.

All of the songs in the movie were perfectly modernized, to where they are still the beautiful Disney songs we’ve all grown to love, but they’re also catchy enough to be blasting in your car with the windows down. The movie is perfect for both kids and adults, anyone of any age. They plot and subplots are all totally kid-friendly, but with the type of entertainment and humor that adults will still love. This movie will definitely bring up the sentimentality of the original animated movie, but with a 2017-welcomed facelift. The movie is filled with some lighter, funny moments that will leave you giggling in your seat (Or just me?), but also some deeper moments that hit you in your emotions.

The soundtrack is already available on iTunes, and I honestly haven’t been able to stop listening to it. Maybe we’ll even have it playing during St. Patrick’s Day dinner! My personal favorite is Evermore… What’s your’s?
