Date Night and Breyers Gelato, What More Could You Want?

This past Saturday, we were invited to have a date night in the park at a Street Food Cinema event held at Syd Kronenthal Park in Culver City. With food trucks of all kinds, a band, plenty of room to spread out and have a picnic, and a movie, what more could you want?

Breyers Gelato. Dessert makes everything better. In fact, life is short; eat dessert first.

This post is sponsored by Breyers Gelato Indulgences, and I am a part of the Mom It Forward Blogger Network. This means I was compensated for this post, but the photos and opinions are all my own.

So we did. We ate our dessert first. Breyers had a booth at the top of the food truck row, where they had a huge freezer full of tubs of three new Breyers Gelato Indulgences flavors:

Breyers Gelato Indulgences Strawberry Truffle: strawberry gelato topped with a rich fudge swirl and gourmet dark chocolatey truffles.

Breyers Gelato Indulgences Mint Chocolate: refreshing mint gelato topped with a rich fudge swirl and gourmet chocolate curls.

Breyers Gelato Indulgences Chocolate Caramel: chocolate gelato topped with luscious caramel sauce and gourmet chocolate curls.

They all sound heavenly, right? We tried all three…and then we tried some more. Who can say no when you’ve got big trays so readily available?

Breyers Gelato Indulgences are available in eight flavors, and all feature gourmet toppings, a luscious sauce and the creamy gelato texture you’d expect from Breyers. The three we got to try were indeed as delicious as they sound, and starting off the night with them instantly set the tone for a relaxing, indulgent date night — and that’s exactly what date night should be, right?

Having been married for over 21 years now, we take our date nights seriously. No messing around. Even if you can’t get out for an entire evening, you have to get out. We’re lucky, our kids are older now so we can go out without day care, but even when we had to figure out babysitting and budgets, we still found a way to make it work. Dating your spouse should always be a priority, and the minute you don’t make it one, you are in trouble. Dating doesn’t need to be fancy or expensive, but that time to let loose and just be together is beyond important. Stay in touch with your spouse by talking, laughing and enjoying the outing without interruptions. Girls’ night out, guys bonding over the golf course, those are important too but those come second to the time out with your spouse. I think date night is one reason we’ve been married for so long!

But back to this particular date night. It started with a visit to the Breyers Gelato Indulgences booth, where we indulged, seated on plush furniture in the fading sun, both complaining a bit about the heat and enjoying the last couple of weeks of ‘real’ summer. My husband is a huge fan of mint and chocolate chip, but we both agreed that our favorite flavor of the three is the strawberry truffle. The little pillows of strawberry-filled chocolate chunks were the best part! The strawberry gelato was mild and a bit tart, the sauce plentiful and the chunks were just enough to add some crunch without being overwhelmingly chocolate. I loved it! It was a fun way to get relaxed, it was decadent and it fit perfectly in with the theme of a night out together, completely away from the normal routine of homework, chores, dinner and then dessert. It was also just light enough to leave room for us to enjoy the many food truck offerings. So many to choose from, yet we both chose Haute Burger, where I had the world’s best ahi burger and pork belly frites, continuing our feeling of indulgence!

The band was Corsica Arts Club, a fun group of guys who played music reminiscent of the ’80s, which fit perfectly for the movie, Clueless. (“As if!”)

We sat out on our blanket, jealous a bit of the set-ups some other people had, completely with roll-up tables and fancy pillows. Next time, we are packing up more stuff to take in! We opened our wine, leaned back into our chairs, pulled on the hoodie as it cooled off significantly and settled in. And went back for more gelato at least a couple more times. We even considered taking home a tub in our cooler bag, provided by Breyers, but the traffic on Google Maps looked a little concerning. Oh well, we’ve got some great coupons for complimentary tubs to use later this week so the kids can enjoy during movie night at home! If you’re looking to buy it — and you know you are — Breyers Gelato Indulgences is available in grocery stores nationwide in a 28.5 oz clear tub, showcasing the gelato to its finest, and it retails for a suggested prize of $4.49-$5.99.

date night

Thanks, Breyers and Street Food Cinema — we can’t wait to attend another date night in the park! I’m taking the new cooler bag so we can pack in some dessert to eat first again!
