Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers: It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

Mondays aren’t always the best day of the week, but when you start your day off perusing social media and the first thing you see is Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers in Sony’s upcoming movie, “It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” you know it’s going to be a good day.

I grew up watching the iconic Mr. Rogers. His episodes brought a smile to everyone’s face, young and old, and the messages he taught us are timeless and eternal. You couldn’t help but be happy when that red red sweater made its appearance onscreen, and we didn’t even know at the time what an impact his life and mission would have on us all.

If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, take a peek here, then keep reading so we can chat a bit about what your thoughts are on this movie.

Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.

One of my favorite quotes by Mr. Rogers is his story about helping people. Life is full of a lot of good, but there is also bad out there, and children sometimes need an extra push to help them deal with it. We adults do, too, and Mr. Rogers’ message is something we all need to remember.

When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”

Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers is the best piece of casting I’ve seen in a long time. Other names from the movie are Matthew Rhys, Susan Kelechi Watson and Chris Cooper. The movie hits theaters on November 22, 2019, and I can’t wait to see it.

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor. Would you be mine? Could you be mine? Are you as excited about this movie as I am?
